The war matchmaking is getting worse, not better. We are a mixed clan of th11/10 and th9 and none are engineered or rushed. Every war we face more th11’s on the opposite team, more Eagle defences and so on.

War matchmaking algorithm
That could be the issue: I contacted them to report that we were still getting matched against engineers and that more refinement was needed to the algorithm. I can say out last 2 wars where we limited spread and search times did provide tough but fair matchups. We hadn't considered keeping the spread tight, thats a good idea. I'm going to reccomend that to the leader.
Fully engineered war clans or too many members too far along tend to not be able to find any war matches at all.
Clan War Matchmaking – Less Mismatches
Additionally, I think too many maxed TH11 will get you caught there, but that's just speculation based on the proof I've seen. Obviously I don't know, but I've given it a lot of thought. If you trust the clashkings2 recommendations, then I think a large number of balanced sandbags may actually help with matchmaking. SC does not give extra weight to the top of the lineup anymore so a bunch of non-engineered sandbags may really help.
War matchmaking algorithm
My post was more explaining how my take on this sub-Reddit's community perceives the new matchmaking algorithm. You could be totally correct that adding a bunch of non-engineered sandbags may really help, but I think the general consensus is that having too large of a spread can get you thrown into the "engineered" pool for war matchmaking. You might go up against easier bases overall with low tier engineers which could get you more wins, but the end result would still be you being matched up against an engineering clan.
OP - It's not just you. We're experiencing the same thing. We're a level 10 clan that had a 4: L ratio before the MM update, and now we're probably 1: Most of our guys follow ed the. A couple of our co-leaders also have alt accounts that are slightly more engineered than. Unfortunately, while we may "slightly engineer", what we routinely see is match ups against extremely engineered teams. Whereas our engineered account may be a defenseless account with L4 drags, or something like that.
What really sucks, esp in the smaller wars 10 or 15 , is that it all comes down to which team can attack 1 the best. Below 3, it generally feels like people are just going through the motions - doesn't really matter. I think the larger wars may not be as bad as that since there's more room for variance, but it's getting to the point of being dumb for the smaller wars IMO. I have heard of the infamous CK2 xls that supposedly will clarify your team's weight and penalties, but it's too involved for a casual clan IMO.
Entering all of the BS just for myself gives me headache thinking about it, let alone doing it for my entire roster, and then maintaining it. I'll try to simplify the ck2 spreadsheet. There is a lot to digest.
Welcome to Reddit,
And no, I don't understand the BS rational, just the flags. If the answer to 2 of those questions is Yes, then it's into the engineer pool for your clan. Further observations of the sheet for us although we do not know for sure that it affects MM is that it is not just checking defensive buildings and heroes. One of my accounts has thrown a flag for not maxing all collectors at a previous townhall. I'm also currently throwing a 'buildings not placed' flag and the only thing I haven't finished since hitting TH7 with this account is upgrading Dark Barracks to unlock hogs, so it seems the 'not placed' flag also looks for troops that should be available at the current townhall.
Thanks for the response. So what does your clan do in prep to be the most successful you can be in war? Is it just ensuring all bases in war don't trip any of those 3 flags, then hope for the best? We used to be a constant war clan that would look forward to kicking off the next war immediately after the current one ended. Now, people are so frustrated that we often go days between wars. Do you have any recommendations on how a casual clan can use your xls effectively, without spending countless hours maintaining it weekly? Do you just tell your members that they need to download, populate and maintain their base so as to not trip flags, and trust they do so?

- [ASK] What's up with the new matchmaking algorithm? : ClashOfClans;
Unfortunately, we rely on dedicated effort of a few members. Bases on our recent experience, I'm starting to think the best move is to engineer harder. We've had issue with this too since we run mostly a 10 or 15 man war. I used to have my "engineered" base added into the mix for wars since I figured I would just attack hard while having a base that was made up of only one of each type of defense while upgrading all troops and stuff, but that may have caused the issue.
So I've been adding all the normal defenses into that base and we have had slightly better matches. Still have some where its balanced TH10 and th9 with one or two random th11 that have min.
I feel the pain. My clan has decided to go completely fair and balanced to improve the war matchups. Since then we reviewed all of the recommendatioons made at clashkings2. It's a lot to go into, but in short there are a series of flags that label your clan as engineered. We are trying to turn off as many flags as quickly as we can.
The flags don't all make sense, but neither does SC. Could be the exception here but our war matchups have been good. We are TH11 to TH9 clan.
